Cigna TTK to expand in Telangana

Cigna TTK Health Insurance Company has plans to double its agent network this year in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to 2000.

Hyderabad: Cigna TTK Health Insurance Company, a joint venture between the US-based health service player Cigna Corporation and Indian conglomerate TTK Group, has plans to double its agent network this year in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to 2000 even as it will strengthen its bancassurance partnerships, said Jyoti Punja, deputy chief executive officer, Cigna TTK.

She said it has tied up with Andhra Bank here last year and so far has covered 800 branches and will look to cover 2,000 more branches this year. It has also tied up with many other banks. For direct sales, it has about 15,000 agents across India including 1,000 in TS and AP, which are likely to account for about 13 per cent of total business, she said.

The standalone health insurance company has this fiscal seen a 55 per cent year-on-year growth in the premiums, making it the fastest growing health insurance company, she said adding that its total premium was about Rs 200 crore. The company served about 3 lakh customers.

The average sum assured was Rs 2.5 lakh upwards. The company had claims settlement ratio of about 94 per cent. Though it offered cashless facility, reimbursements accounted for a large chunk of the settlements, said Punja.

The health insurance penetration in the country was low. However, the double digit medical inflation, rising awareness about health insurance, tax incentives and others presented a big opportunity. The company is working on educating about the products and will use technology for this, she said.
